Lighting
With the modern advancements in fluorescenct, compact fluorescenct and LED lighting there are a lot of interesting options for you to consider, with susbstantial power savings on offer!
A typical Incandescant light globe we used to use would nominally run at about 60 watts of power
A modern LED light offering the same amount of light output would typically run at about 10 watts!
Lifetime of LED lamps is also a significant factor to consider, whilst the lamps and fittings themselves may seem expensive when you first consider them, the lamps are typically rated to last for 100,000 hours.
A high quality incandescant lamp was typically rated to last a mere 2000 hours.
"Combining the expected lamp life and immediate energy savings, the initial outlay cost of upgrading your light fittings to LED is soon recovered."
Another upgrade to your lighting system you could consider is to install dimmers on the circuits.
You might be surprised but often you don't need to power a lamp at full brightness to effectively and safely light up a room.
Lighting Dimmers can add that comfortable and relaxing feeling to a room, in say a dining room, nursery or entertainng area where a soft and delicate light source really can add to the ambiance whilst saving on energy.
Combined with modern sensor technology or home automation solutions such as Clipsals popular C-Bus lighting controlls,
or better still a "Z" wave system that allows you to use you smart phone as a remote,
there is a world of new lighting technology easily available today.
